This blog is to allow our friends and family to join us as we move forward with our surrogacy journey. We invite you to ask questions, write comments, and be a part of this adventure!

Our surrogacy journey started a while back. After finding out that my fibroids are back once again and fairly large in size, it was highly recommended that I don't try to achieve a pregnancy. After two surgeries to get rid of the fibroids were we crushed that our family might not grow. After taking the summer to search our other options we came across surrogacy. With surrogacy we would be able to have a biological child without the risk of another preterm delivery. For months we searched ads and started looking into agencies. Until one day, an acquaintance told me about someone she works with who might be interested in being a surrogate. Once we were united with Gina it didn't take long to realize that we were a great match! A few months after talking, we finally got to meet each other and each others' family. Dave and I were so happy to have met someone down to earth, a good mom, caring, and someone we know will be an excellent surrogate for us.

So our journey continues with Gina's medications starting this weekend! After a few months of struggle with insurance, paperwork, and appointments, we are only a month away from our transfer date. A transfer date is the day that developed embryos will be implanted into Gina's uterus in hopes that one will implant on the uterus wall. Prior to the transfer, an egg retrieval will take place to retrieve as many eggs as my body will produce while on hormones. The eggs will then be fertilized with Dave's sperm. And 3-5 days later is the transfer. Yes, it is amazing what technology can do today! We are praying that our transfer will work in March and next December we can have another member to the Mullen family.

  2. Hi Amy--
Thank you for including me on your blog. What a fantastic way to share your exciting news! (At school us teachers are always so busy, so it's hard to find the time to talk and celebrate the happy times in each other's lives).

I am so excited to hear that you met a surrogate! She is your guardian angel! You both are great parents and Jacob will be an excellent big brother! Your news made my weekend and truly warmed my heart. I believe that everything in this life happens for a reason and Gina entered your life at the time that was destined for your family.

I look forward to you sharing more as you continue down this journey to adding another child to your family!

Love, Laura, John and Mason :)
